Reciprocal and definitory systems in Ofelia Iszaevich's art

Berta Taracena

From 1991 on, Ofelia Iszaevich accomplishes a decisive evolution on her work, both in form and in content; if these terms are to be considered reciprocal and defining systems of incidences of her codes.

As this stylistic change takes place, together with the disappearance of the previous garments, emerges a central image full and rich in meanings, integrated by multiple elements which give an idea of a real and fantastic close by world, with its own and clear connotations.

Evidently, the research carried out of Ofelia Iszaevich*s work cannot be limited only to the immediate expressive aspect because her art offers from the first reading, a materic continuum formed by structures and microstructures such as: lumps of matter, textures of the foundation used to build, nervures, embossments, addition of natural fibers and other objects, light effects, vision angles, index of improbabilities, information dosage, and many more diverse elements, some fortuitous, which nevertheless integrate the complete orthography of the piece operating variations, whether objective or subjective for the global interpretation of the esthetic universe of the artist.

Through similar ways rich meanings are proposed in such a way that the readings can become really painstaking; therefore, a profound and reflexive investigation of the motives is suggested.

In Ofelia Iszaevich*s case, we are dealing with an artist whose plastic language has never been coerced, as conventional art has to come forth with a compulsory solution. From her first stage on she rejects an univocal or closed expression and decides in favor of an open or polyvalent one. All this verifies that the above mentioned stylistic change, really suggests a change in the vision of the world within which the receptor becomes the co-author of Ofelia Iszaevich's art.
